Spied The Dinosaur Set-Up, A Marketing Curiosity - Plus Flamingo Nesting Notes

The Dinosaurs for the Zoo's Summer Event arrived this week.  Some were viewable from the barriers on both sides of the Event Loop.

I think the Loop starts at Koalas
and ends at Tropical Building.

These are outside the Tropical Aviary.

One of our existing Dinosaurs seen in distance.

Signage at the barrier by Koalas.

Close-Up of Pricing on cart seen in the distance in the photo above, that is where I assume the entrance will be.  You can also see in the previous photo, a partial Dino, which I was told was going to be a photo-op station.

The curiosity is, Why are there no sandwich board advertisments about the Event, placed on paths now? Even on that huge black billboard north of Wolverines.  That thing has been unused since the VR thing moved.  Why it's not being used for special notices, including potential fundraising efforts, is beyond me.  As well, a week out, and no signage about it outside the Zoo for passers by?

People can see the Dinos, it's a missed opportunity for awareness to Visitors who may come back for it.  I overheard at least a dozen people talking about the Dino's, but not the Event.  When I was photo'ing the ones by Tropical Building, one guy started talking to me about them.  I told him they were for an Event, and about the animatronics.  He was like cool, I'll have to come back.

WalkAbout was closed off a couple weeks ago when electrical work for Dino's was being done.  Considering Boomer the Emu at WalkAbout is one of my besties,  I was upset I wouldn't be able to see him for over three months, the duration of the event.  I asked PR about this over a week ago but never got an answer.

If this is the case, and WalkAbout will be closed to Visitors, I'll pay to go see him once a month, if the exhibit is going to be accessible to those who buy a Dino ticket.  That said, I am concerned about the affect the animatronic sounds will have on Boomer, the Walleroo's, and the Cassowary.

-Another note about yesterday.   While viewing Flamingos, I thought there should be some signage about Nesting Season.   It can't be assumed that every visitor views the Zoo's social media.

Additionally, I've always thought people are a little much with their intolerance of smells.  I have heard it through the years about the Farm Barns, the Lion House, and yes, the Flamingos.  Sure sometimes there's an odor, but I bet it doesn't compare to that of most of these people's kids poopy diapers!   That said, I muttered about it to my friend, and said there needs to be a sign here about the scent, since this is often too common a comment. Might be especially helpful during this time, as if I remember correctly, when eggs have been laid, Keepers have tended to not go in the exhibit as much, or for as long as it would take to deep clean, which would require keeping the Birds inside, which would seemingly interupt them sitting on the eggs for an extended period of time.

Anyway, one and a half Thumbs Up on these items.

Looking forward to seeing Flamingo Chicks again, it's been too long.  Egg watch was a fun time in the past.  Seeing Chicks hatch in front of me was amazing, and watching the babies grow and change to Adults is a cool experience.  Thumbs Up!

Dino's look cool, but I won't be happy if I can't see Boomer for three+ months.  Will be very cranky and sad.   When I do get to see him, he will probably think, Where has she been?  And not understand.   So, only half a Thumbs Up! for Dino's for me personally.

That said, I hope it's a successful event and generates a substantial amount of revenue.  Certainly enough to cover what looked like well over a dozen new electrical outlets being installed to run the Dino animatronics, and hopefully enough for some necessary fixes.  See my next post!

I used to use (search) labels, but too often forget.  I started noting "Hot Topic" in title, but fell lax on that.  Now I'm just going to add labels, keywords, etc., here at the bottom with hashtags.  Does it help in searches, who knows.
