> March 14, 2014 - Well, lookie here, either the Zoo read it on my blog or went by the FB post by my friend Paddy (after I told her of the stupidity), but they have now changed the information to Pike.  Of course without apologizing and noting their "mistake".   No surprise there.  Its one thing to make a mistake and an entirely different thing to not admit to it.  Says alot about the kind of morals some Staff at the Zoo have.

Some might ask, why am I picking on this?  Why does it matter?  It matters because these are people who are lucky enough to have jobs at a place where they can be surrounded by these Wonderful Animals, yet they don't take the time to even know much about them, at the very least who they are as individuals.  Bottom line, too many people on staff at the Zoo, Just Don't Care.  I Care and I want the people there to Care.  TO DO BETTER.  The Animals deserve it, the Zoo deserves it.  To thrive at Optimum, not Mediocrity.

> March 13, 2014 - UG.  Looked at the Zoo's Facebook page and they posted this photo, which isn't even the right Animal mentioned in their post :P  ZooFoo's!  You ask what's a ZooFoo?  Its my own coin and is a combo/cross between Fools and a snafu!  .. This photo IS of Pike (Polar Bear)!  It always amazes me that the people who work at the Zoo, don't even know which Animal is which. Especially when you're job is posting photos.  There are only two Polar Bears, get it together people. I even herd one  of their photographers tell someone that Ulu was a "he"!  WTH!?!?!

> March 10, 2014 -  Seven Weeks of Trash!   This trash that I posted about on my other blog in the post about my Jan 21st visit, is still friggin' in the same spot! UNbelievable!  < Well it should be, but I guess nothing should surprise me, even something this simple.  The "grass" is growing up around it and new stuff has been added :(   I reported it to Security, and they alerted Janitors.  I've reported it twice more since. Major fail.  Glad the winds didn't kick it up (my original concern) and the plastic didn't blow into the Lake and harm any Waterfowl.

Once again the Zoo failed to give mention to an Animal Awareness Day.  I waited til the end of the Zoo day to post this, because I knew they wouldn't disappoint me.  Sadly, its not me that I am disappointed for, but for our Polar Bears, who deserve to be Celebrated on this Day, as Ambassadors for their Wild Cousins who face quite a plight.  Part of the Zoo's Mission is to "Advance Conservation Action".  What does that mean when they don't Recognize and Educate on these Awareness Days?

The new Zoo Animail email newsletter is out.  First up was a bit about our new female River Otter, Sable.  They changed her name at last weekends ZooFest.  Big surprise the Zoo is notorious for this action of disrespect.  

I've already written a whole post on this on another blog, so I'll try to be brief here.  If you would like to read that post this is the link.

I wish the Zoo's monetary supporters would have more respect for the Animals and choose to donate in support of their care, rather than rape them of their given names, just to hang their own moniker on them as a status symbol.  

It should be one of the Zoo Director's fundraising missions to at least suggest this as an option.  Possibly  adding a small donor plaque at the exhibit where the Animal lives. But, we can't count on any respect coming from Zoo Director Tanya Peterson, as it appears not only does the Public Relations Department continually issue untrue and disrespectful press releases, Director Peterson apparently has no couth either.

Director Peterson writes a "Director's Bulletin"  which is posted to the Zoo's website.     In a recent entry in reference to recently passed 50 year old Great Horned Owl King Richard, she wrote,  "..mid-way through her life, on the way back from a ZooMobile presentation, “he” laid an egg. Her drag career over, Richie regularly laid unfertile eggs..."   DRAG career!! Are you kidding me?!  To me, making a remark like that is completely disrespectful.  There has been alot of horrible statements come out of this place, but this is the worst.  Its just awful and heartbreaking to the memory of this lovely lady who brought decades of joy to Zoo visitors.  But, that seems to be how the San Francisco Zoo rolls under this management.

Saturday December 31, 2011 - Happy Birthday Elly!

 Today's Zoo visit was in honor of Elly's 41st Birthday!

Starting with the January Birthdays, I've decided my primary fascinating days will be in honor of the precious Zoo friends Birthdays.  The San Francisco Zoo Management finds no value in celebrating the Animals who live there, but I love them and think they deserve the respect of acknowledging what they give to the Zoo.  They are all amazing and deserve to be recognized for that.

For example, last year 2011, Elly turned 40!  That is a huge milestone for a Black Rhino.  She has given birth to I believe 14 calf's, carrying them each 15 months.  That means she has been pregnant more than 16 years of her life.  Incredible!  Her calf's have gone on to be valuable genetically for her species not only in other Zoo's but some have been released back into the wild.  To me, she deserved to have at least her milestone recognized.  Thank you Elly!

 Elly Belle, as I call her, was prancing about enjoying the sun!

Her actual Birthday is January 1st, 

but since there is another Zoo friend Birthday that same day,

we made the scene with our greeting the day before :)

The greeting usually comes with a festive topper in honor of :)
