The Zoo's Pygmy Hippo Akobi left this past Monday for his new home at the Houston Zoo. I spent some extended time with him the previous week, knowing it would be the last time I'd see him. I told him I loved him, and I was happy to have known him. I thanked him for the friendship, and said, I hope you like your new home. I told him he would be getting a girlfriend, and hope he likes her, and makes babie Akobi's.
I found out about his move in March and posted about it, as it was already in the Animal Transaction Document. With that notation, I didn't know when he would be leaving, it could have been anytime since the Zoo usually never warns people. I soon found out it wouldn't be til November and confirmed my suspicion, that it was for breeding. I knew he had a breeding recommendation, as before he even arrived in SF the rumor was we would eventually get a female. We never did. In hindsight, it's not space logical that would have happened, only wishful thinking.
Been waiting all week for Houston to announce his arrival, and finally they did on Friday. So happy he arrived safely and looks to be settling in ok. And that they are using his real name! That makes my soul smile.
I Love that Houston Zoo has changed their Facebook cover photo to Akobi!

I just Love seeing his real name. Precious Akobi never has to be referred to as "Udo" again. He, like Tucker before him, has regained his identity. Thank you Houston Zoo!
Akobi has also been making a splash on media, as many news outlets have picked up his arrival, some also referencing Thailand's babie Pygmy Hippo Moo Deng, who has become a social media sensation.
Hope you enjoy your new home Akobi, I miss you already my sweet friend ❤ Love you and look forward to following your new journey in life.

I used to use (search) labels, but too often forget. I started noting "Hot Topic" in title, but fell lax on that. Now I'm just going to add labels, keywords, etc., here at the bottom with hashtags. Does it help in searches, who knows.
