I published a post Nov 11 titled, The Zoo Director Wants Pandas - The Want Over Need Priority Is Killing Our Zoo. It pretty much documented the selfishness of Mayor Breed, Director Peterson, and anyone else who has supported bringing Pandas to Our Zoo at this moment in time. I ended that post with the following...
> Now let's talk about the $20 Million. Since Mayor Breed couldn't raise a dollar and won't be in the picture after January, her promise that The City and private Donors would fund the Pandas, is a moot point. How long will that $20 Million last with Panda rental fees, enclosure work, dedicated staff, extra security and flying in Bamboo? Tanya Peterson will walk away from the Zoo, leaving it with a hefty annual bill just for Pandas, without looking back, except to blame the next Director when the Zoo has to send the Pandas back because they can't afford them. <
That is honestly how I see this Panda situation playing out financially. In other financial points of the Panda Plan fundraising efforts, there is a huge point that I need to reiterate, both because it affects the Zoo as a whole, and media has not covered this for the masses.
I noted in some recent post that I had still unread email replies from a Supervisor's Office responding to specific inquiries I made at the on-set of the Board of Supervisors granting Mayor Breed an allowance to fundraise for Pandas. I have since read those, and replied to clarify how the information now applies to Zoo Director Peterson's raised funds. I am not happy that what I assumed would be the deal, is in fact reality.
So, to back-track, when the Board Of Supervisors granted Breed permission, it came with the stipulation that funds would also need to be used for the Needs of current Zoo Animals. ... I never got an answer to my question about what percentage of those funds would go to other Animals. When I pushed, I was told the BOS was never going to monitor the funds, regardless of who raised them, which I found irresponsible. Why make stipulations, if there is no oversight?
Since Breed failed to raise any funds, and Director Peterson had raised funds, that stipulation is void. The Supervisor's Office confirmed that funds raised by Peterson, are treated like any other funds and can be used for whatever she wants, unless Donor Locked. This means most likely, no funds will be used for other Animals Needs. This seems to allow for a complete misuse of funds.
So, unfortunately it's business as usual for Director Peterson, and that's disgraceful. It sends the message, No current Zoo Resident's Needs matters, only those of the Pandas.

I used to use (search) labels, but too often forget. I started noting "Hot Topic" in title, but fell lax on that. Now I'm just going to add labels, keywords, etc., here at the bottom with hashtags. Does it help in searches, who knows.

*Thank you for your comment. All comments are appreciated. In the past fourteen years, I have replied to almost every comment. In recent years I have found it hard to keep committed to that.
