A Year Of Panda Madness

I woke not long ago to this in a Facebook Memory...  I had posted it to my FB page, with the text, "holding back tears for our zoo".

It's been one year to the day, that the Panda Madness became Official.  Prior posts documented then Mayor Breed's chasing Pandas all the way to China.  But this was the real start of it all.  And, just one day before, Our Zoo became infamous in national news as the SF Chronicle dropped their first in a series of articles exposing the massive issues of Our Zoo, all due to the gross mismanagement of Director Tanya Peterson.

I lay here about to start my day, one I hope will bring me success in at least finishing the two posts I started weeks ago, that at the time were the last two in my Orangutan/Panda Outrage series.  A usual irritation, has sparked equal bits of overwhelm and frustration, that both fuels my ambition, and stomps on it.  I'm tired.  Tired of the Bullshit.  Or, as my custom cap states, Sick Of The Bullshit.

The irritation, started yesterday, but I shut it out til now. Before I could get to my weekend efforts to catch up on my documentation, I was derailed when Director Peterson made the news with a Panda update.  Yesterday morning I was hipped to the initial article in the SF Standard.  After reading it, I wrote a title for a future blog post, 'There Is No End To Zoo Director's Panda Want', which has now merged with this one.

I have wrote endlessly about the subject of bringing Pandas to Our Zoo.  Mostly surrounding the irresponsible factors, what doing so would do to Our Zoo, and especially to the Animals who already live there.  The main factor in all of it, is the fact that Director Tanya Peterson has done little to no Fundraising the entire time she has been in the position.  That one factor, has left Our Zoo in desperate shape, inside and out.

The main issue for me is it has left Animals in desperate need of enclosure renovations and upgrades.  While haters have complained of run-down grounds, in my opinion Our Zoo is not visually an issue.  That is not saying there are many questionable choices that have been made, and many things that need tending to.  Bottom line, Our Zoo is in desperate Need of fixing.  Yet, Director Peterson has cried poor for Needs, while she and Zoological Society Donors seem to find funds for their Vanity Wants, and other nonsense, screwing everything else that Needs to be done.

Since I mentioned "questionable choices", for the lack of not knowing where I'm going to complain about this, I'm going to interrupt this post and slide it on in here.  Yesterday, was the first time I saw the paint job on Gauhati the One Horned Rhino's home completed.  The sight of it, sucked the happy out of me.  It looks like a Prison.  I don't know who makes the color choices, but shame on whoever chose this Dreary Gray color.  I was upset the rest of the day and thinking about it again, makes me so sad.  I left fantasizing about colorful flowers being painted to lessen the depression.

Gauhati was napping, but against this capture, against that color, makes him look sad.  The poles in the west and the main area, are a pale green, and the ones in the east space are still gray metal, making it look even more like a prison.  It's a huge space, that now has dark sad walls.  Why not use a shade of green like the poles?  That would not be my choice, but of the two colors chosen,... I don't know, I just don't get any of it.  The building was a light creamy gold-ish color (as seen in Chimp area, behind the gray walls in the last photo), why change that?  At least it was a neutral building color.  These enclosure extension walls has been previously painted a too dark green color, that needed a change, but not to prison gray.  Even a very pale gray would have been better. This, this is a complete fail.  I can't even.  It's like someone says, what's the worst we can do, and that's what Our Zoo seems to get.  It's incredibly sad.

Who is that person?  Who makes these decisions?  Someone there who knows, enlighten me.  I'm not the only one who's curious.

Ok back to the reason for this post.  The other sadness that is bringing Pandas to Our Zoo, which can also fall under the banner of decision makers saying, "what's the worst we can do"?

So, in this Standard article, the mention of Politics and tRump's Tariffs are hypothetically related to acquiring Pandas from China.  Noting the proposed 245% tariff, which if was attached to the Panda rental, would up the annual fee from $2 million (for two Pandas), to $4.9 million.  While a tariff of Pandas seemingly would not come into play, Director Peterson did not say she would not pay.  The cost is already an irresponsibly insane plan for Our Zoo to be committed to, but it's further concerning that Tanya Peterson seemingly has no concept of financial reality.   Maybe that's okay in her personal life, but it's not okay for managing Our Zoo.

I used to use (search) labels, but too often forget.  I started noting "Hot Topic" in title, but fell lax on that.  Now I'm just going to add labels, keywords, etc., here at the bottom with hashtags.  Does it help in searches, who knows.
