RIP Kodari/Tenzing - Original Red Panda Passes Away

Sad Zoo news this week.  On Monday it was confidentially shared with me that Our Beloved Red Panda Kodari/Tenzing had passed away.

I continued to call him Kodari, the name he arrived with, though I have slipped into calling him Tenzing since the news.  Time has flown by, I hadn't realized he has been Tenzing all but one year of his whole life.  He turned Twelve this year.  Even though I'm a name purest, I can't deny him his life name.

This news was Heartbreaking to hear, he was a favorite from day one.  The first Red Panda I had ever seen.  He came to Our Zoo at just under a year old and opened the new tree house exhibit.  He loved his new home. Before the area was accessible to the public, I would watch him running around, playing and coming to the glass to see Staff.  When it opened, I was so happy he came up to greet me too! ❤ When he wasn't napping high up in his tree house, he was zooming all about, playing and interacting with all the enrichment he was provided.  He seemingly made the most of everything.  When I heard the sadness, one of the first things I said, was that I'll miss his somersaulting, also noting the time I saw him having so much fun, playing in the water the Keeper sprayed into the enclosure for him.  He was a happy little fella, who always seemed to be having the best time.  He had a good life here.  I Love this happy little guy.  I'll really miss him.  RIP Kodari/Tenzing, Bless Your Soul, sweet boy.

The Zoo announced his loss today.  So I can now share with his friends and fans this cute video I took a few years ago.  The Zoo's press release also notes his love of somersaults and water play.  I captured them both on this day.
