Happy Birthday Jahari! - African Lion Birthday

Jahari turned 10 on February 7th!

Happy Birthday Jahari!

With all that's going on,
I'm sorry I missed posting this sooner!

Jahari was born at the San Francisco Zoo along with his sister Kimani who now lives at the Tautphaus Park Zoo.  His parents were Tunya and Kita who came to the Zoo along with Amanzi as yearlings in 1997.

  1. I had my 10th, birthday as a docent at the San Francisco Zoo in February 2003
I remember the births of Jahari and Kimani as I had just graduated my docent traing class when they were born. It was an exciting time as docents were asked to tell the visitors about why Jahari and Kimini were raised by keepers of the lion house. They both were the cutest cubs and had each other for play and comfort. Lots of love from their keepers. One keeper is still at the zoo. Suzy, who was great with them. lots of love while bottle feeding them. There mother passed away right after they were born due to a breach. Jahari is the most beautiful lion I have ever seen. His mane is beautiful As he was growing in his mane, he looked a bit like a Jane Fonda hair do.
