The other day I was alerted to another post made by the Activist guy. I wasn't planning on writing a reaction post, but as I lay here about to work on some Zoo stuff, my mind has revisited one thing he wrote.
The catalyst for his post involved interactions he's had with Zoo Officials regarding the employment status of the Zoo's "Deputy Director and VP of HR" Vitus Leung. I'm not going to get into the Where's Vitus debate, but something else irked me, and this isn't a new irk. In fact just last week, I voiced it in a conversation with a Staffer. ... In this guy's post he states in a letter to Zoo Board Chair, "I've had my eyes on SF Zoo since 2008".
I'm sorry but I call bullshit. Where was this guy...
In 2010 when the Spectacle Bears were living exclusively on concrete that was breaking down their bones? Leaving our male with such severe bone issues, that while otherwise healthy, he lost his life because he couldn't walk.
In 2013 when the Zoo acquired the first Komodo Dragon, and kept him in a Terrarium until he grew so big he couldn't turn around? And ended up with a curious bone deformity? That eventually lead to his passing.
In 2014 when the infant Gorilla was killed? He sure likes to keep dragging her death into his current agenda.
In 2015 when the Chimpanzees were slated to be kicked out of their home, and sent to an amusement park?
In 2019 when the Orangutans arrived to no dedicated home and were living in the overhead caged tubes? Did he ever have his eyes on that? Because I stood there several times a week crying at their confinement.
So, I ask this guy, What exactly have you had your eyes on the last sixteen years? I'm not trying to be a bitch, but I'd like to know, because I've had my eyes and ears on the Zoo and ain't seen or heard anything out of you during that time frame. How many Joint Zoo Meetings did you go to between 2008-2023?
The Zoo has needed help since Tanya Peterson became Director in July 2008. You jumped.on the bandwagon last year when the Zoo was in the news, finally under scrutiny for mismanagement, and for the insanity of acquiring Pandas. You were nowhere before that. That media attention, provided a forum for you and other Anti-Zoo Zealots to further your personal agendas. None of which had anything to do with helping better the Zoo. Only recently have you seemingly altered your "intentions" to seek change to better the Zoo. Yet those intentions are also still woven in an Anti-Zoo (format) agenda.
While I appreciate all voices to help seek change for Our Zoo, it's offensive for you to put forth such nonsense that you have actively been caring about the Zoo and it's Residents for the last sixteen years.

I used to use (search) labels, but too often forget. I started noting "Hot Topic" in title, but fell lax on that. Now I'm just going to add labels, keywords, etc., here at the bottom with hashtags. Does it help in searches, who knows.
