Follow-Up To June 7 Post - Update To Idea For Housing Lions & Panda's In Big Cat Area

In my last post, I referenced a post that was supposed to have a proceeding one.  This is that post, with some changes.

My June 7 post titled, "Lions, No Lions. Pandas, No Pandas. Will The Truth Ever Reveal Itself?", ended with this paragraph...

"Last week I put forth an idea for Keeping Our Lions and possibly satisfying the Panda Want.  I took photos of that area this past week, and this post was meant for them and a rehash of that idea.  As I wrote, the post flowed to include other words and memories, and now the idea rehash and photos, are best suited for a separate post."

I put forth an idea I had that allowed for both the Lions and Pandas to occupy the Big Cat area, without ever seeing each other, satisfying one of China's stipulations.

Above is one of the graphics included in that May 30 post titled, "Our Zoo Needs To Try Harder To Keep Our Lions Home!".  In that post I shared an idea of building a covered/indoor extension off of Cat Yard A (in red), accessible via the existing currently blocked off windows.

As mentioned this post was supposed to rehash that, as I took photos of the extension area to include.  Since then, I realized something, that never entered my mind, or any conversation with others.  Admittedly, I probably should have realized this sooner, but I'm no Panda expert, and when Pandas were here in the 80s, they only used one of the then four yards.  When looking at images of Panda enclosures, I realized, only one Panda was shown at a time.  Further research indeed confirmed, while two Pandas are sent as part of the agreement, they have to be housed separately.  Maybe everyone but me knows this, but it seriously was never part of my thought process in any of this.  So, with that, this idea wouldn't work.

There was seemingly a reason why I had dueling posts going this weekend.  As I worked to finish the previous one, I had a thought, that altered this idea.

The above graphic shows the changes.  The most significant is the rebuilding of a finger wall in Cat Yard A (orange).  Returning it back to it's original layout of two yards, now creating three.  Both these Cat Yards should have never had the walls taken down. One double-wide would have been sufficient, and Cats rotated into larger yard, since Cats sleep most of the day.  This uses the rotating idea with Pandas.  Considering they basically sit all day eating, or napping, with the occasional roll about.  Pandas can access their indoor spaces in the Lion House via these two yards. The Lions can occupy the A Corner, with that extension, that can double as a night quarter, without ever needing to go into the Lion House.   Although a wall (green) could be built in the LH to separate from Panda indoor viewing, if LH rooms on west side (pink) want to be used for separation for feeding or other short-term use, while Pandas are outside in yards.  If needed, a fence for keeping Lions out of the moat can easily be put up in a yard this size.

The photos below show that extension area.  The space is sizable, in front of the three unused viewing windows, and as seen in second photo, could extend west along building wall, which almost doubles the space size.  I approximated the footage, but can't find those numbers now.  It's a decent size for an enclosed addition.

Anyway, that's the post.  That's the idea.  It probably seems pretty useless to put forth any ideas, but I forge ahead no matter.  Never hurts to express ideas, and it clears them from my overwhelmed mind.

The sad thing about all this, is that I don't think Pandas will ever come here, and Our Lions will have been moved from their home for no reason at all.

All the time and money wasted on a fantasy.  Years of one empty enclosure, and then two.  Years with no fundraising for current Animal Needs.  Possibly with the Zoo even going through with the renovations, and still ending up with No Pandas, because China does not commit to sending any until after inspection of finished enclosure.  Leaving the Lion House and Cat Yards, destroyed and unable to house Big Cats again, without further renovations.

All the upset and upheaval for nothing.

I used to use (search) labels, but too often forget.  I started noting "Hot Topic" in title, but fell lax on that.  Now I'm just going to add labels, keywords, etc., here at the bottom with hashtags.  Does it help in searches, who knows.
